Yoko Ono, Debbie Harry, Jackson Browne and Willie Nelson are among dozens of artists contributing to “Occupy This Album,” to raise money for the Occupy Wall Street movement against economic inequality, a publicity firm said on Monday.
Workhouse public relations firm said that the album would be released in the spring “as a celebration that provides a musical voice and ultimately through record sales, financial support to fortify the movements continuation.”
The album is being put together by Occupy Wall Street solidarity group “Music for Occupy.” Other artists involved with the album are Third Eye Blind, Crosby and Nash, Tom Morello, Thievery Corporation, Warren Haynes, and Immortal Technique.
Inspired by the Arab Spring protests, Occupy Wall Street began when protesters set up camp in New York’s Zuccotti Park on Sept. 17, sparking demonstrations across the United States and elsewhere in the world.
But the eviction of protesters in New York and public spaces in other U.S. cities in November and December has made the protests less visible and organizers now face the challenge of how to maintain momentum without the physical camps.

Jay-Z, who recently became a dad is making 2012 count. The Brooklyn born rapper is making history by becoming the first rap artist to perform in New York City’s legendary Carnegie Hall.
The concerts will be held on February 6th and 7th at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Montreal’s Moment Factory, an interactive set maker, will provide a cascading color and light show for the historic Hip-Hop shows.
Eric Fournier, partner and executive producer at Moment Factory, says his company is up for the challenge.
“For us, that’s the beauty of the challenge. Yes, it’s Carnegie Hall, but it’s also Jay-Z. That’s why we’re doing this project, because we have this great artist to magnify on stage, and not replace,” Fournier said of merging the scenic elements with Jay-Z’s two-night stand.
The concert will benefit the United Way of New York City and The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Tickets go on sale on January 30th with the after party being held at Jay-Z, Chelsea, 40/40 club.
Not happy enough with having Jersey Shore, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is making a public appeal to have the NY Giants SuperBowl celebration parade IN New Jersey, if they win of course.
The roots of the franchise were planted in the Empire State, but the Giants (and the Jets) have played in Jersey for decades.
They play in New Jersey,” Christie said on the “Today” show. “They train in New Jersey.”
Reminded by Matt Lauer that the Giants have a “NY” logo on their helmet, Christie replied, “That’s about it.”
Mayor Bloomberg steered clear of any controversy:
“I want to be careful here,” Bloomberg said. “I don’t want somebody to say we jinxed it, so I’m not going to talk about it.”
New Yorker’s have forever been plagued with isolated chants of being rude and unwelcoming, well now a recent survey all but proves it.
Travel + Leisure magazine’s latest “America’s Favorite Cities” survey ranks New York as the “rudest” city based on 40,000 reader responses. The Big Apple last earned the unwanted distinction in 2009, but this year it edged out Miami, Washington, D.C., 2010 “winner” Los Angeles and 31 other cities.
“I don’t think it’s true,” former Mayor Ed Koch told said. “I believe that New Yorkers immediately help if they can. And it’s not that I’m looking through life with rose-colored glasses, but it’s from what I’ve seen.”
I mean who wouldn’t get annoyed if they were running late and you have to navigate through hundreds of people at 8am. All in all I don’t think this survey does the City any justice. New York [hearts] You!
The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry wants to collect audio recordings of the purported strange noises in the sky heard by residents of Kota Samarahan, Sarawak.
In a Sinar Harian report, Deputy Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusuf said the ministry was collecting as much “evidence” as possible on the bizarre happening so it could submit its report to the National Space Agency (Angkasa) for further investigation.
“This incident is no laughing matter. We hope those who have audio or video recordings of the noises can come forward so we can investigate,” said Fadillah, adding that any evidence can be sent to the Petrajaya parliamentary service centre in Jalan Astana, Kuching.
The daily reported that residents in Budapest, Hungary and Conklin, Canada had also heard similar peculiar noises in the sky on the same dates.
The daily also quoted international reports saying the strange noises heard globally could have originated from the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) programme, an ionospheric research programme based in Gakona, Alaska in the United States.
The publisher of a Jewish newspaper who suggested that Israel assassinate Barack Obama in a weekly column, has apologised.
Andrew Adler made the controversial statement in the Atlanta Jewish Times, a paper which serves the Jewish community in Atlanta, U.S.
He claimed ordering an assassination of President Obama could be one of three ways to protect the people of Israel.
In the original article, he said: ‘Yes, you read “three” correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel’s existence.
‘Think about it. If I have thought of this Tom Clancy-type scenario, don’t you think that this is almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel’s most inner circles?
‘Another way of putting “three” in perspective goes something like this: How far would you go to save a nation comprised of seven million lives…Jews, Christians and Arabs alike?
‘You have got to believe, like I do, that all options are on the table.’
Mr Adler has now issued a formal apology and insisted he only wrote the piece to provoke a reaction from his readers.
‘I very much regret it, I wish I hadn’t made reference to it at all,’ he said to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
